It all started when…
Few years ago, I was at a tech meeting in silicon valley and someone mentioned community garden. I’ve always wanted to have a garden so I was intrigued. I’ve grown up in a house where we had a lot of growing space where my parents planted many fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, herbs. We had chickens, and even had cows for fresh milk. Even though we lived in the heart of the city but our backyard felt like it was miles away. We grew up eating fresh, organic food. I remember, my mom would ask me to pick fresh herbs from the garden while she was in the kitchen cooking. I enjoyed those trips to the garden where I’d sit and observe the ant colony. I remember on hot summer afternoons, my sisters and I hung out under the huge blackberry tree to pick berries in our skirts and eat them till our lips turned purple from the berry juice.
Now years later, when I moved to silicon valley I found a nice plot to garden. I grow organic vegetables along with various culinary herbs. I started growing microgreens for my nutrition and vitality. Being quarantined at home, I increased my production to share microgreens with my neighbors and my community in Palo Alto.
When my friend who owns a farm nearby, looking to deliver extra produce to her friends during social distancing time asked for my help, I decided to create this online platform to make it easier for other local urban farmers to deliver their produce. I also wanted to create a movement for eating tiny greens (microgreens) which is the food of the future. What I like about microgreens is how nutrition dense it is along with its intense flavor. Adding small amount of it to our daily diet boosts our immune system.
I want to recreate the taste of eating fresh vegetables and greens that I had in my childhood. Our goal at Blue Sage is to deliver freshness in every bite that is tasty and nutritious. We ensure this in every step of the way from our growing methodology and harvesting just few minutes prior to delivery. Our farm to table time is unbeatable in the market. No one can provide freshly cut microgreens within minutes of harvesting. It is like having your own organic garden without the hassle.
Besides, if you are a climate activist like me, you know that buying local food helps your community's economy and helps reduce the environmental costs associated with food miles (amount of travel time for food to transport to the market). And thereby reduce your carbon footprint. I hope you will join us in the ‘local urban farm movement’ and support your local farmers.
We are located in San Francisco Bay Area and serving our local communities at this time.
We look forward to serving you.
